Video Recordings of Pieces Used in Session 1

Giuseppe Verdi,  Prelude to Act I, La Traviata

The Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, conducted by Xian Zhan, performs at the BBC Proms in September of 2013

Very traditional performance from an Italian orchestra known for their performances of Verdi (hence their name).  Very good production.

Giuseppe Verdi,  Prelude to Act I, La Traviata

Sir Georg Solti conducts the Royal Opera House of Covent Garden

In this performance you are able to experience how the composition was intended to be heard, from the orchestra pit. Sir Georg Solti conducts the Royal Opera House Orchestra at Covent Garden, in a live performance of La Traviata, December, 1994. Notice Sir Goerg’s choices in interpreting the opera’s famous prelude. The more assertive interpretation was chosen, perhaps, to elevate the dramatic, tragic story line that follows.
